Vanilla Minecraft is too easy. Even with no moonlight or torches, you can still see inside the cave regardless of your gamma setting! The Hardcore Darkness Mod by mod developer Lumien changes all that.
What the Mod Offers
Hardcore Darkness Mod makes it highly dark in places with no light source. This makes torches and other light sources a necessity for survival and navigation. The mod also features many options in the config file, including Dark Nether, Dark End, Dark Twilight Forest, Alternative Night Sky Light, and Dimension Blacklist.
Should You Install It?
The mod makes nighttimes and caves much darker than they used to. The game is perfect for players who want extra challenge and immersion.
How to Use
After you install this mod, it will be in mode 0, there are three different modes, and they can be changed in the config file:
There is no minimum block & skylight
There is no minimum block light
There is no minimum block light & the skylight is dependent on the moon phase
There are also some other options in the config file:
“Dark Nether”: “Whether the minimum light of the nether should also be removed.”
“Dark End”: “Whether the minimum light of the end should also be removed.”
“Dark Twilight Forest”: “Whether the time in the Twilight Forest should be fixed to midnight instead of dusk.”
“AlternativeNightSkylight”: “In Mode 1 & 2, the skylight has a slightly blue tint; this option replaces that with a slightly green/yellow tint.”
“Dimension Blacklist”: “A list of dimension ids separated by “,” in which Hardcore Darkness will not take effect.”
